This morning I joined the leaders of the People's Port Trust to deliver the community bid to buy our port to the Prime Minister at No 10.

As many people will know, there is no process as such for a bid of this nature to be made. This is why the new Government is putting through legislation to enable quangos to have functions transferred and enable localism and community right to buy.
A current example is British Waterways, a statutory corporation just like our harbour board which is being mutualised. This is being done under the quango bill. I hope the Government will enable this to happen, so we can take our port into local ownership and take Dover forward to realising the potential we all know our great town has.
