Dover Grammar School Parliamentary visit

It was a real pleasure to welcome students from Dover Grammar School for Girls to Parliament. I got a thorough quizzing on Government policy. They asked questions about university fees and the regeneration of Dover, both of which are hot topics just now.

They had spent the morning touring both the House of Lords and the House of Commons. They discovered that the House of Commons is actually tiny - it always looks big on the telly - but they weren't allowed to sit on the green benches. That, I can assure you, was no loss. Those benches may look grand but they are very uncomfortable. Especially if you have to sit for 6 hours waiting to be called to speak in a debate!
