Charlie "Gets Set" for the Olympics at St Edmunds

Today I geared up for the Olympics with pupils and teachers from St. Edmunds Catholic School in Dover. St Edmunds has been awarded a Plaque by Get Set, the official London 2012 education programme for schools and colleges across the UK.

Get Set is a great opportunity to involve as many children and young people as possible in the excitement of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. I am very keen that Dover and Deal benefit from the Olympics and that the students of our schools are able to take as full a part as possible. I was delighted to learn that St Edmunds Catholic School is taking part and I very much hope that our other schools will follow their example and join in too.

Get Set seeks to support and drive existing educational priorities and agendas while fostering the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and respect. I was awarded a surprise Certificate by Headteacher, Chris Atkin for Leadership.

I am also going to continue to make the case for the Olympic torch to come to the UK through Dover. The enthusiasm and hard work of the pupils at our schools in East Kent show that we are more than ready to get the Olympics going with a traditional Kentish welcome!
